An integrative taxonomy combining morphological and molecular data confirmed that both ''[[Macromia amphigena]]'' Selys, 1871 and ''[[Macromia manchurica]]'' Asahina, 1964 have been assigned to separate species hypotheses, although there is hybridization between the members of these taxa. Scientific names ''[[Macromia clio]]'' Ris, 1916 and ''[[Macromia kubokaiya]]'' Asahina, 1964 are shown to be junior synonyms of ''[[Macromia amphigena]]''. ''[[Macromia amphigena]]'' exhibits a large range of intraspecies morphological variation within its wide distribution, which covers most of East Asia. ''[[Macromia berlandi]]'' Lieftinck, 1941 is treated as a junior synonym of ''[[Macromia cupricincta]]'' Fraser, 1924 based on previous research and the present study. Some traditional diagnostic morphological characters are deemed not suitable for species diagnosis. Integrative taxonomy can help researchers to filter out amphibolous morphological features and find more credible characters for future taxonomy.

Une taxonomie intégrative combinant des données morphologiques et moléculaires a confirmé que Macromia amphigena Selys, 1871 et Macromia manchurica Asahina, 1964 ont été assignés sur la base d'hypothèses à des espèces distinctes, bien qu'il existe des cas d'hybridation entre les membres de ces deux taxons. Les noms scientifiques Macromia clio Ris, 1916 et Macromia kubokaiya Asahina, 1964 se révèlent être des synonymes juniors de Macromia amphigena. Macromia amphigena présente un large éventail de variations morphologiques intraspécifiques au sein de sa vaste répartition, qui couvre la majeure partie de l'Asie de l'Est. Macromia berlandi Lieftinck, 1941 est traité comme un synonyme junior de Macromia cupricincta Fraser, 1924 sur la base de recherches antérieures et de la présente étude. Certains caractères morphologiques diagnostiques traditionnels ne sont pas jugés appropriés pour le diagnostic des espèces. La taxonomie intégrative peut aider les chercheurs à filtrer les caractéristiques morphologiques amphiboles et à trouver des caractères plus crédibles pour la taxonomie future.
