Indothemis carnatica (Fabricius, 1798) était à l'origine limitée à quelques localités de l'Inde, du Sri Lanka et de Thaïlande et a donc été traitée comme une espèce "quasi menacée" (NT) sur la Liste rouge de l'UICN (Dow 2009). Toutefois, cette espèce s'est probablement répandue dans plusieurs pays au cours des dernières années. Ainsi de nombreux nouveaux signalements ont été rapportés : Cambodge (Roland & al. 2011), Malaisie (Choong & Cheah 2013), Vietnam (von Ellenrieder & al. 2015), Chine (Hong Kong, Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong) (Odonata Research 2016 ; AFCD 2018 ; Zhang 2019), Singapour (Soh et al., 2019) et le Bengladesh (Kalkman et al., 2020). Une augmentation du nombre d'individus individus a également été observée à Hong Kong (Wu, 2020). En conséquence, la Liste rouge de l'UICN a traité Ischnura carnatica comme une espèce non menacé (LC) après avoir après avoir réévalué le statut actuel de la population (Dow 2019)."
