Commentaires
Cette espèce est phylogénétiquement distincte des autres Somatochlora (Kohli & al. 2018). Elle s'hybride néanmoins avec Somatochlora albicincta ou Somatochlora hudsonica en Alaska et au Yukon (Canada) (UICN [2020]).

Répartition
Elle est connue en Europe (Deliry [2001]).
- Japon (nouvelle : Kohli & al. 2018, Deliry 2020). Les individus d'Hokkaïdo se réfèrent à cette espèce du point de vue génétique, mais ressemblent fortement morphologiquement à Somatochlora alpestris.
- Alaska (UICN [2020]).
- Canada (UICN [2020]).
- Russie (descend en Sibérie méridionale : Irkoutsk et vers Khabarovskiy : Kosterin 2020).
Il s'agit de l'Odonate qui a la répartition la plus septentrionale au Monde : présente au-delà du cercle polaire. Il s'agit d'une espèce Circumboréale de hautes latitude Arctiques (zone Holarctique). Elle est donc présente sur l'essentiel du Nord de la zone Holarctique, tant en Europe, en Asie septentrionale qu'en Amérique du Nord septentrionale. On la trouve aussi au Japon (Deliry 2020).
Habitats
Eaux stagnantes tourbeuses de la toundra, tourbières généralement sur permafrost (Deliry 2017).
Phénologie
Vole de fin juin à août (Deliry 2017), voire dès le mois de mai (iNaturalist [2020]).
