Initié sous Thecaphora notamment par de Selys Longchamps (1854), le nom, préoccupé, a été remplacé par Zoraena par Kirby (1890). En Amérique du Nord, le seul a avoir utilisé récemment ce genre, plutôt que Cordulegater est K.Tennessen (J.Abbott, in litt. du 12 avril 2022) [1].
