Garrison & von Ellenrieder (2019) présentent la situation ainsi : "Erythrodiplax bromeliicola. Diplax fraterna Hagen, 1873 was introduced as a nomen nudum and this name, mentioned in various listings pertinent to the Antillean odonate fauna, was made available by Ris (Ris, F., 1911. Collections Zoologiques du Baron Edm. de Selys Longchamps. Catalogue systématique et descriptif. Libellulinen 4. 12: 385-528) in his key to the forms of E. connata (1911 : 498-499) and description (1911 : 508-509) of material housed in the Selys collection. Although the name fraterna has been listed as a junior synonym of E. connata, the latter species is not presently known to occur in Cuba. Based on Ris' key and description, E. connata fraterna Ris is apparently an older name for E. bromeliicola Westfall in Needham, Westfall & May, 2000. However the name fraterna has not been in use (except in catalogs and various listings) since 1911 and we have preserved the name bromeliicola in accordance with Article 23.9.1.2 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature."
