Phylloneura Fraser, 1922 est un genre de demoiselles qui, jusqu'à présent, a été considéré comme monotypique, représenté uniquement par Phylloneura westermanni (Hagen in de Selys Longchamps, 1860) qui est endémique des Ghats occidentaux de l'Inde. Dans notre étude, nous avons découvert par hasard une population de Phylloneura près des collines de Ponmudi, à Thiruvananthapuram, qui présentait des différences morphologiques et comportementales par rapport à Phylloneura westermanni. Nous la décrivons ici comme une espèce nouvelle pour la science, en fournissant des photographies et des illustrations détaillées. Nous fournissons également des notes sur son comportement reproductif.
Abstract
Phylloneura Fraser, 1922 is a genus of damselflies that, to date, has been regarded as monotypic, represented solely by Phylloneura westermanni (Hagen in de Selys Longchamps, 1860) which is endemic to the Western Ghats of India. In our study, we happened upon a population of Phylloneura near the Ponmudi Hills, Thiruvananthapuram, which was notable for displaying morphological and behavioural differences from Phylloneura westermanni. Here, we describe it as a species new to science, providing detailed photographs and illustrations. We also provide notes on its reproductive behaviour.
