Cette famille éteinte est connue du début du Secondaire, d'Europe occidentale, d'Asie centrale et de l'Antarctique. On y connaît cinq genres : Liassophlebia Tillyard, 1925 Ŧ,Ferganophlebia Pritykina, 1970 Ŧ, Grimmenopteron Ansorge, 1996 Ŧ, Bavarophlebia Nel & Petrulevičius, 2005 Ŧ et Rossiphlebia Kelly & Nel, 2018 Ŧ. Les espèces de cette famille ont été découvertes de Grande Bretagne au cours de la fin du Trias et du début du Jurassique et d'un plus grand nombre de localités ensuite, Hettangien d'Allemagne, du Pliensbachien ou Toarcien d'Allemagne et du Kyrgyzstan. On pense qu'ils se sont éteints au cours du Toarcien (Swaby & al. 2023).
