Cette famille comprend 47 espèces de taille assez grande à très grande (80-140 mm d’envergure) Fleck & al. in Aberlenc (2020). C’est au Vietnam que la diversité de cette famille est la plus élevée avec 18 espèces (Karube & al. 2024).
Les espèces de cette famille se trouvent en Asie, depuis l’Inde au Japon, sous climat tropical à tempéré doux (Fleck & al. in Aberlenc 2020).
Cette famille comprends trois genres : Chlorogomphus, Chloropetalia et Watanabeopetalia.
